Known as ”The Cannibal” Eddy Merckx broke the hour record in 1972 riding 49,431 km on a classic geometry bike. The bike only weighed 5.9 kilograms. The record stood for the next 12 years. After the record attempt Eddy Merckx was quoted for saying the famous sentence “The hardest ride, I’ve ever done”.
